Nutrition to Overcome COVID-19

In 2020 humanity is facing a global health crisis unlike any in the 75-year history of the United Nations and the World Health Organisation (WHO) — one that is killing people, spreading human suffering, distress and upending people’s lives. But this is much more than a health crisis, it is also an economic and social crisis. The coronavirus disease (COVID-19), which has been characterized as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), is attacking societies at their core, revealing inadequacies, shortcomings in governments, in healthcare systems, in the economies of the nations of the world.  The world would never be the same again after this crisis.

The COVID-19 pandemic which correlates in Astrology with the Saturn/Pluto conjunction brought to the world sickness, deaths, compulsory changes, inhibitions and restraints, quarantine and isolation issues. We were forced to isolate and look within ourselves to find solutions to our problems.  The nations of the world were forced to LOCKDOWN.  On January 12, 2020, we experienced on the exact date of this planetary alignment of two heavyweights of our solar system the beginning of transformation of our lives, marking the first Saturn-Pluto conjunction of the 21st Century. This particular meet-up of Astrology “heavyweights” Saturn and Pluto occurred at exactly 22° 47′ of Capricorn, emphasizing the theme of enforced restrictions, imprisonment or isolation—thus the newest cliché known as ‘Social Distancing’, self-isolation, quarantine, Lockdowns, etc.

For those of us with a keen interest in the subject of Astrology as it interprets  our world, contacts between these two planets  seem to bring major upheavals and tend to reshape society on a very wide and deep level; thus economic collapse, international conflicts and major political upheavals are rife during Saturn-Pluto contacts.  For instance, World War 1 coincided with the Saturn/Pluto conjunction in 1914 and the World Trade Center attacks took place during the last Saturn-Pluto opposition in 2001.

When Saturn and Pluto come together, it is a serious time indeed. We will be unable to avoid the fact that some things in our lives are no longer working, are worn out and are ready to pass.  As Saturn dances with Pluto, life situations will arise throughout the next several months to show us what needs to be cleared out of the way so that we can pursue our goals from a place of love, wisdom, strength and understanding.

Saturn, Lord of Karma is the “reality check” planet asking us to assess obstacles, set boundaries, and be aware of our limits.  Pluto’s influence is asking us to eradicate our self-destructive habits, forcefully wanting us to make changes in all areas of our lives, financially, spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially and psychologically. We have polluted our environment and ill-treated one another over a long time; we need to revise our ways urgently.

Major planetary events often show clearly in the world as life on Earth mirrors the movement of the planets above; As Above so Below is a basic astrological tenet. And, if astrology is to be of any value, then we must learn to work with the symbolism of the planets, to heed their lessons. As Above so Below is a basic maxim in astrology and for many spiritual practices. What happens on one level of reality also happens on every other level; the microcosm and macrocosm behave alike.  Yet, they work differently on a personal level.Planetary energies and other outside forces will always affect humanity but it is how we collectively and individually respond to these influences that counts; now is not the time for fear and panic; it’s the time rather to have faith and hope in the goodness of life.

The first reported case of Covid-19 was on December 1, 2019 and could be considered the inception of the spread of the disease although information about it was initially suppressed.  COVID-19 appeared in Wuhan, a city in China, in December 2019, early hypotheses thought it may be linked to a seafood market in Wuhan, China. Some people who visited the market developed viral pneumonia caused by the new coronavirus. A study that came out on Jan. 25, 2020, notes that the individual with the first reported case became ill on Dec. 1, 2019.  At that time on December 1, 2019 when Covid-19 was first diagnosed, the Sun in Sag. was conjunct fixed star Antares in the heart of the Scorpion, which correlates with fevers and sickness and was approaching square Neptune in Pisces, which rules poisons and infections and perhaps strange illnesses difficult to diagnose. Neptune is the modern ruler of Pisces and Jupiter the traditional ruler. Jupiter was placed in its own sign of Sagittarius was square the planetoid Chiron, the Wounded Healer hinting of a wound of humanity.  This configuration (Sun square Neptune) spell infections or diseases difficult to diagnose or heal or perhaps suppressed or denied. Pisces rules many things such as illusions, deceptions, delusions and ‘fake news’; is related to addictions, mental illness, drugs, oil, the unconscious, image projections, denial, fear, psychosis, spirit, the oceans etc.

The most important influence though on the coronavirus astrology is Saturn(inhibition) conjunct Pluto (Regeneration). Astrologers often cite Pluto apart from Neptune as a main culprit in epidemics; the 1947 SA/PL conjunction coincided with the polio pandemic whilst the 1981 SA/PL conjunction coincided with the HIV/AIDS pandemic.   The current CoVid-19 (SARS-CoVid2) is no different. In this case SA/PL in Capricorn seems to put the elderly at greater risk of death from the virus than other groups.

By March 11, 2020 when WHO declared Coronavirus pandemic, the Sun was this time conjunct Neptune in Pisces (ruler of infections and diseases) and   complicated by a quincunx relationship to the Moon, symbol of the people of the world.  The quincunx is an aspect of health imbalances, and Neptune rules illness and infection; Corona was declared a worldwide pandemic infecting the peoples of the world. The SUN/NEPTUNE conjunction on March 8, a day before the Super Full Moon of March 9 is complex, highlighting  light and shadows, fears, hidden enemies of mankind, microbes, bacteria, viruses that challenge the immune system, karma, mental illness, hospitals, nurses, doctors, healers, oil, airlines, the seas and ships, debts, illusions, delusions,  endings, dreams, addictions, shape-shifting, fog, etc. We see all these issues brought to play in our world at this time of COVID-19. Health care systems, doctors, nurses were challenged, cruise ships were invaded with Corona virus; airlines were grounded as a result of restrictions in air travel and airlines began to crash; oil prices nose-dived, suspicions and conspiracies and fake news were rife.  All these in an atmosphere of SA/PL fear, mass death and extreme measures made to restrict the spread of the virus. Some people reacted with ruthless, extreme, self-righteous, prejudiced, immoral or obsessive behavior. COVID-19 threatened the poor and marginalized, highlightedracism and bigotry; violence and crime against humanity color the times.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had far-reaching consequences beyond the spread of the disease itself and efforts to quarantine it, including social, political, cultural, economic, educational repercussions. The world has changed dramatically in the early months of 2020 since the Coronavirus breakout. The magnitude and speed of collapse in our social and economic structures that has followed is unlike anything experienced in our lifetimes.   A rare disaster, the coronavirus pandemic resulted in a tragically large number of human lives being lost. As countries implement necessary quarantines and social distancing practices to contain the pandemic, the world was put in a great social and economic Lockdowns. Many countries now face multiple crises—a health crisis, an unemployment and economic/financial crisis, and a collapse in commodity prices, which all interact in complex ways to slow down human development.

Saturn-Pluto aspects carry themes of enforced restrictions or “Imprisonment,” whether literal or metaphorical. We were restricted or weighed down and challenged by new limitations, routines and responsibilities. Isolation, loneliness, pessimism and even depression were possible during these times of worldwide Lockdown. We experienced losses, deaths, bereavement of older relatives and many disappointments, jobs were lost, relationships strained and broken, the world was turned upside down.

It may seem with the lockdown that our freedom was shrinking every day with the travel restrictions, uncertain economy, but on the plus side, each individual is forced to focus on matters much closer to home – how to survive – physically and psychologically. Starting with resolving the emotional and psychological trauma we still need to heal within themselves, so yes, our liberties were being restrained (Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn), but this is to aid the transformation Pluto demand. Suffering, deprivation, anxiety, distress and obstacles can lead to a reversal of human orientation upon the Wheel of Life. Saturn is the great Teacher of life and though her lessons may seem frustrating, we learn to dance in the storms and adversities of life. Heaven-sent obstacles shed light on the way to go especially if we have been on the wrong path. Saturn goads us and ensure we reach our dreams and highest potential eventually. The times call for strength and fortitude in the face of much suffering from a disease difficult to diagnose and more difficult to cure. The times call for Divine Grace to save us from ourselves.

The WHO has encouraged hand washing and other social hygiene measures. They are asking better sanitation and measures aimed at protecting and care of our physical body, but better nutrition is overlooked and care for our energetic body neglected.

Protect yourself. Clean hands protect against infection.

  • Clean your hands regularly.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water, and dry them thoroughly.
  • Use alcohol-based handrub or sanitizers if you don’t have immediate access to soap and water.

We must Restart our lives in the right direction

Just like we have to protect and care for our physical body, we also have to protect and care for other aspects for our well-being such as our nutrition status, exercise, stress levels, rest, air we breathe, sunshine etc.  We have to restart our lives in the right direction.  We must stop eating junk foods and avoid hard alcohol, avoid toxic pharmaceuticals and medications and we must begin to lower environmental toxins and clean up our environment so we can breathe clean fresh air. We must begin to eat more raw foods, greens, nuts, seeds to boost our nutrition status. We must stop yelling and arguing with one another and restrain negative emotions like anger, resentment, grudges and cease holding to the past. We must intensify our prayers for freedom from mental and social slavery and learn to meditate which brings us closer to the Supreme, where solutions for all our problems come.

We have spent much time these last few months washing our hands and looking after our physical health, let us also turn our attention to our energetic health by cleansing our aura and the energy of our space. After the Lockdown we are urged to make a New Start in life. How do we cleanse our Aura or the energy of our space?  We have to raise our vibrations by eliminating those issues that block us from total health of body, mind and spirit. Following Islam or the Buddha’s or Christian teachings enable us begin to take care and protect our energetic fields, individually and collectively.  If a Moslem one fasts, abstain from eating pork and drinking alcohol, regulate pleasures and pray five times a day to get closer to Allah or God; especially during the month of Ramadan.   The follower of Buddha’s teachings follow the Paramitas or perfections – generosity, properconduct, renunciation, wisdom, energy, patience, honesty, determination, express goodwill, equanimity; all help in purifying the energy body and the Aura. Followers of the teachings of Christ should fast and pray and follow the ten Commandments and live the Beatitudes whilst they are expected to express love and kindness to their neighbors. Covid-19 has led us to begin to express kindness and show love and compassion for one another.

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has led to sweeping changes and disruptions in nearly every aspect of daily life.  It is important to practice kindness and empathy during this time, not only for others but for yourself as well. There are many benefits to practicing kindness and empathy. Empathizing with others can help you feel less lonely and more connected. When people reach out and help one another they feel less lonely and isolated.  In addition to boosting social connectedness and increasing helping behaviors, expressing kindness and empathy with others also improves your ability to regulate your emotions during times of stress. Feeling empathy allows you to better manage the anxiety you are experiencing without feeling overwhelmed.

Researchers and health experts the world over agree that optimally functioning immune system is the body’s main and most powerful weapon to recognize and destroy viruses and other pathogens.

To defeat this COVID-19 global pandemic we need strong immune systems, for the immune system is what helps us to fight various infections whether fungus, bacteria or viruses. This means we need to pay attention to our diet or nutrition to empower our resistance against infections.   One basic factor that affect natural resistance to infection is nutrition. Malnutrition breaks down the immune functions by suppressing the immune system.  Balanced nutrition, especially in terms of adequate vitamin, mineral and protein intake, enhances the resistance against infections.  Researchers and health experts the world over agree that optimally functioning immune system is the body’s main and most powerful weapon to recognize and destroy viruses and other pathogens.

A healthy lifestyle apart from frequent hand washing should include a diet rich in fruit and vegetables, sufficient sleep, exercise and other measures necessary for protecting us against infections. An optimum supply of micronutrients is vital to support a healthy immune system. Micronutrients help in different stages of a viral life cycle. For instance, vitamin C helps in inactivation of viral DNA, thus limiting viral reproduction. Vitamin C also aids in antibody production of the white blood cells (WBC), these help us fight infections. The amino acid lysine in synergy with vitamin C is important for blocking collagen-digesting enzymes and strengthening connective tissue, thereby controlling the spread of infectious agents. Antioxidants such as zinc and selenium support lymphoid tissues in the thymus gland and the function of white blood cells. Quercetin and iodine are critical for immunity. In synergy with vitamin C, quercetin acts as an anti-inflammatory agent, and iodine supports the function of the thyroid gland. Intrinsic factor is a vital supporter of the immune system and is critical for the absorption of vitamin B12. There is no specific treatment available for viral illnesses, and people must  turn to supplements to support their immune system against viruses if they cannot get them from foods.

A healthy immune system will help the body fight any virus and there are a number of ways in which nutrition can support it in this fight. Despite this, advice on nutrition is often missing in public discussions about immunity and infections.  Whilst vaccination programme can prime the immune response in cases of exposure to viruses, their levels of protection can vary and a vaccine has not yet been developed for COVID19. Advocates and researchers into natural medicine are therefore calling for public health officials to include nutritional strategies in their recommendations to improve public health.

Many researchers across the world such as  Dr. Rath Research and Dr Mercola  (< Mercola.comall advocate paying attention to our nutritional status to overcome diseases. Another international research team, including Professor Philip Calder from the University of Southampton, has published a new report advising how the public can support their immune system and give it the best chance of fighting the coronavirus. A diet with a diverse and varied mixture of vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and pulses, along with some meat, fish and dairy products provides the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients the immune system needs for optimal function. However, the researchers recognise that supplements are a safe, effective and low cost way to support an optimal immune system where the diet does not provide enough of certain vitamins, minerals and omega three fatty acids.  <>

Like any fighting force, the immune system army marches on its stomach. Healthy immune system warriors need good, regular nourishment. Scientists have long recognized that people who live in poverty and are malnourished are more vulnerable to infectious diseases.  Researchers emphasize the effects of diet, exercise, age, psychological stress, and other factors on the immune response in humans. A general healthy-living strategy is a good way to start giving your immune system the upper hand.  Besides practicing good hygiene, there are other things we can do to help our body be strong enough to fight off infections.  Mother Nature, thankfully, supplies a number of remedies for healing ailments such as bacterial and viral infections, many of which have performed well in laboratory tests.

The dietary factors that cause malfunction in immune system could be insufficient intake of energy and macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fats) or most essentially  deficiency of specific micronutrients; the nutrients which support and stimulate the immune system are called “immuno nutritional elements” and  effective vitamins  and micro minerals are included in this group.  There is much evidence that various micronutrient deficiencies — for example, deficiencies of zinc, selenium, iron, copper, folic acid, and vitamins A, B6, C, and E — alter and undermine  immune responses in man.

VITAMIN C Vitamin C has proven many beneficial effects on immune function.

VITAMIN A – Studies show that having sufficient amount of vitamin A is essential for immunity and is anti-anaemia.

VITAMIN B6 Vitamin B6 has been shown to increase immune responses, even in critically ill patients

Vitamin B12 plays a key role in cellular immunity as well as preventing pernicious anaemia.

FOLIC ACID – Folic acid is proven to assist normal immune cell function. Essential for the metabolism of RNA, genetic code transmission as well as blood formation.

– A lack of iron negatively affects immune response.

CALCIUM – A properly balanced intake of calcium is crucial for a well-functioning immune system.

MAGNESIUM – Research shows that magnesium participates in immune responses in numerous ways.

·  ZINC……Zinc is one of the most important trace elements essential for immune and anti-allergy function. Zinc deficiency is a major health problem worldwide.

·  SELENIUM ……This key micro-mineral increase natural killer cells and mobilizes cancer-fighting cells. Selenium works well with vitamin E and its deficiency is another worldwide problem.

In order to boost your Immune system, you should take foods that contain these micronutrients. All nutrients are important for maintaining immunity and providing appropriate amounts of protein, fat, carbohydrate, vitamins, and minerals for the surveillance mode of keeping us from getting sick; but some are more important than others.  Key vitamins and minerals for the immune system include zinc; selenium; iron; copper; vitamins A, C, E, and B-6; and folic acid have important influences on immune responses.

·  Vitamin C increases the amount of infection-fighting white blood cells and antibodies in your body, raises the body’s good cholesterol, and lowers the risk of certain types of cancer. Just 200 milligrams a day works well and can be obtained by eating at least six servings of fruits and vegetables each day.

The Vitamin C foods that boost your immune system best are guava, papaya, strawberries, kiwi, cantaloupe, orange, and grapefruit. Vitamin C supplements are also an option.

·  Vitamin E stimulates the production of natural killer cells, those that seek out and destroy germ and cancer cells. A diet rich in seeds, healthy vegetable oils, and grains can provide 30 to 60 milligrams of Vitamin E each day, but supplements may be necessary to get the recommended 100-400 milligrams per day depending on your lifestyle.

·  Carotenoids- Beta carotene is the most familiar carotenoid. It increases the number of infection-fighting cells, and is a powerful antioxidant that helps slow the aging process. Carotenoids can also lower the risk of heart disease and cancer.

Foods that boost your immune system that are high in carotenoids are carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, kale, collard greens, and tomatoes.

·  Bioflavonoids -This group of phytonutrients aids the immune system by protecting the cells of the body against environmental pollutants and reduces cholesterol’s ability to cause clots in the arteries. A diet that contains a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, at least six servings per day, is all you need.

Foods that boost your immune system containing bioflavonoids include: berries, cherries, grapes, and true fruit juices, true teas (not herbal teas), grains, celery, parsley, grapefruit, oranges, apple skin, onions, endive, radishes, tomatoes, leeks, broccoli, and red wine.

·  Zinc -This valuable mineral increases the production of white blood cells which fight infection. Zinc also helps the body’s white blood cells fight more aggressively and can help the body fight cancer as well. However, since too much zinc in the form of supplements (more than 75 milligrams a day) can inhibit immune function, it is safest to stick with getting zinc from your diet and to aim for just 15 to 25 milligrams a day. Foods that boost your immune system that are rich in zinc are oysters, crab, beef, turkey (dark meat), and beans.

·  Selenium – This mineral increase natural killer cells and mobilizes cancer-fighting cells.

The best food sources of selenium are tuna, red snapper, lobster, shrimp, whole grains, brown rice, egg yolks, cottage cheese, chicken (white meat), sunflower seeds, garlic, Brazil nuts, and lamb chops.

·  Omega-3 Fatty Acids – Essential fatty acids protect the body against damage from over-reactions to infection. When taking essential fatty acid supplements, such as flax or fish oils, take additional vitamin E which acts together with essential fatty acids to boost the immune system. One way to get more omega-3 fatty acids in your diet is to add one to three teaspoons of flax oil or four tablespoons of flax seed to a fruit and yogurt smoothie. These immune system boosters that are found primarily in flax oil and fatty fish (such as salmon, tuna, and sardines) increase the activity of the cells that eat up bacteria.

As you can see, it’s not difficult to incorporate foods that boost your immune system into your diet. Garlic for example is a very good source of manganese, selenium and vitamin C. In addition, garlic is a good source of other minerals, including phosphorous, calcium, potassium, iron and copper. Many of the perceived therapeutic effects of garlic are thought to be due to its active ingredient allicin. This flavorful member of the onion family stimulates the multiplication of infection-fighting white blood cells.   Begin to experiment with eating more of these delicious foods, and pay attention to how much better you feel. Take note of how many fewer sick days you need to take too!

There are some other foods you can look up that Boost your immune System:

Citrus fruits  .Red bell peppers  .Broccoli.Garlic .Ginger.Spinach.Yogurt

Poultry .Shellfish.Mushrooms. Moringa

Moringa can be considered a SUPERFOOD. The benefits of Moringa apart from fighting against bacterial diseases include:

·         Protecting and nourishing skin and hair. …

·         Treating edema. …

·         Protecting the liver. …

·         Preventing and treating cancer. …

·         Treating stomach complaints. …

·         Making bones healthier. …

·         Treating mood disorders.

From Mother Nature are an array of herbals beneficial for our immune system which we can take to boost:

·         LIQORICE …. licorice root  can fight SARS and MERS CoV infections.

·         ELDERBERRY. … black elderberry extract enhances immune function. Refer to Study .

·         ECHINACEA …is an herbal medicine that has been used for centuries, customarily as a treatment for the common cold, coughs, bronchitis, upper respiratory infections, and some inflammatory conditions.

·         GINGER….Fresh raw ginger can benefit your immune function– studies here

·         GARLIC. … GREEN TEA. … OLIVE LEAF. … PAU D’ARCO…Oil of Oregano

The Bottom Line is to eat a variety of healthy foods each day to support the immune system and function Whilst protein builds antibodies for the system, vitamins and minerals promote good health and protect against damage.  You can take them in food supplements.

Every part of your body, including your immune system function better when protected from environmental assaults and bolstered by healthy-living strategies such as these: Don’t smoke. Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables. Exercise regularly.

It is important to consider factors that can undermine the proper functioning of your immune function. These include:

·          – Repeated bouts of stress

·          – Lack of sleep You need to sleep and rest appropriately

·          – Severe mental stress

·          – Poor exposure to Sunlight- Vitamin D

·          – Exposure to constant or chronic illness e.g. malaria, typhoid, worm infestation etc.

·          – Poor hygiene (i.e. hand-washing)

WHAT OTHER FACTORS? How can I strengthen my immune system?  What are the healthy ways to strengthen your immune system?

  • Don’t smoke.
  • Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables.
  • Exercise regularly. Immune function performance depend on the importance of nutrition as well as exercise
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
  • Get adequate sleep.
  • Take steps to avoid infection, such as washing your hands frequently and cooking meats thoroughly.

Now is the time for us to lead the way into a better future. Now is the time to begin the new life.  But to begin the New Life we need a New START and we need to follow the steps on the Pyramid of Health, Power and Longevity.

This is a very important period in human history because of this Coronavirus invasion. It has brought about deaths and also rebirth; major transformation can take place through deep purging. In these times we can welcome the death of an old life, an old Identity, an old way of being and doing in this world. It’s an opportunity for us to take a leap of faith into the unknown leaving behind our fears. Now is the time to reinvent yourself and the life you desire. Whatever is weighing you down or holding you back often is rooted in the past. So, now is an opportunity to let go of the weight of the past and everything else you don’t want in your life anymore. This can be people, relationships, jobs, careers, friends, material items, habits, routines, and even certain states of mind. What have you been struggling with for way too long? What have you not been able to let go of? Together we have an opportunity to collectively do our work and create this new world we desire grounded in Love and Light.  We have to deal with our shadows, our selfishness, greed, jealousy, revenge, racism, violence and crimes against humanity.

COVID-19 has revealed many deficiencies in our health and welfare systems and in many systems of government. World reconstruction and social regeneration is demanded.  It has caused economic and social upheavals exposing many injustices and social imbalances.  Old structures are ready to die, and new ones are coming–but not yet. This is a transitional time, wherein we are still invited to do the inner work before our outer world achievements can fully blossom.  This is a time of uplifting realization, when even the most unconscious of us have to look at ourselves and our behavior and begin to transform our lives.  We’ve all been on retreat for several weeks. As we emerge we question. Who are we?  Who will we be when we go back out – emerge – and what will we see? Will we see with new eyes? What will come of our world?   The question is, what have we discovered after the lockdown?

Now is the time for us to lead the way into a better future. Are we prepared to rewrite the laws of our society to better suit our ever changing socio-economic and political realities?  We wish you all the best of luck in the new world we are evolving as co-creators with the Divine in us.
